Great Sand Dunes National Monument is located near Alamosa in central southern Colorado. This view looking north was taken in October in the aftenoon after a storm passed through which created the sand patterns. The large sand dune to the left is the highest in the monument at over 700  feet above the surrounding terrain.The mountains off in the distance are the Sangre De Cristo Range.
